Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Have you ever found yourself to be a frustrated believer? Where you know the word, you believe the word, you speak the word, but nothing happens? Then this series is for you.

Narrator: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Why live a normal life when you could be living the Abundant Life? Welcome to the Abundant Life program with Ashley and Carlie Terradez.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Hello and welcome to Abundant Life. My name is Ashley Terradez and this my wife Carlie, and we’re so glad you’ve joined us today for this program. We’ve got an exciting show for you today. We’re going to be talking about healing and about the power of God. And You know what if you’re a frustrated Christian? What if you’re someone who believes the promises but don’t see them manifest in your everyday life?

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
That’s some of the things we’re going to be covering on today’s show. Praise God. So thanks for joining this. Carlie, what have we got?

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Yeah. So you know we meet a lot of people in ministry, don’t we?

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
And one of the common things that comes up is people that know the word, that believed the word, that even speak the word. But they’re frustrated because they’re not seeing the word manifest. And maybe this has happened to you? I know that this has happened.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
That’s right. And sometimes people don’t want to talk about it. I know I met so many people that they type of feel ashamed, and they type think, “Well, I believe the word, I know the promises of God are true for me.” But they don’t see them happen in their life, manifest in their life day to day. And they type of feel shame. And I want to first thing we want to do is set you free from that. There is no condemnation in Christ. You are a hundred… There’s no condemnation if you’re not seeing the promises of God manifest in your life. And I think sometimes the devil gives us a double punch and he’ll make you feel bad for not seeing the promises of God manifest in your life.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
So be free from that. Don’t feel condemned. Don’t feel like you’re a second class Christian. Because I’ve seen this happen in these circles where people go around and they type of, they don’t tell the truth. They type of hide behind a mask, because they don’t want to say, “Actually, I’m not seeing my healing, or actually I’m not seeing my finances prosper, or actually I’m not… Actually I am confused or anxious.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Right.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
And I want to make sure people understand that that’s not God’s will for them to feel those feelings.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
That’s important. And if we’re not honest about these things and we just go around and we just say, “Well, I’m just a woman of faith and power and I speak and instantaneously everything I speak to changes.” And the truth is, especially as ministers, we can be really guilty of this. We’re standing on stage and we give you all of our amazing stories of how when we spoke the word and something changed and it was all awesome. But what you don’t see is the waiting and the frustration that happened in between.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Right. So when the preachers preach, they-

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Right.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
They leave out the years of-

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
The years in between.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Frustrating, that frustration and things like that. And I know a lot of times, and sometimes we’ll say things like, “God told me this and God told me that.” And it sounds like we’ve got direct line to God. No, that’s not true. What happens is we have a feeling or we have a sense that God’s speaking to us about something. We act on it and then afterwards we look back and say, “God told me to do this.” But at the time it takes faith, and it’s similar with waiting for the promises of God to manifest. It’s like sometimes it will take time and we forget about part when we tell the story, we just say, “We believe God and it happened.” And sometimes it does happen instantly, but sometimes there’s a period waiting and that’s what we’re going to cover sort of today.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Yeah. And so in this series we’re going to go through the processes of what happens from the point where the word of God leaves our mouth to the point where it manifests in the physical. And as Ashley was saying, sometimes that has a period of time. One of the points that we will cover, however, is that that time, that time that it takes for that seed to germinate, to manifest, God’s not sitting up in heaven deciding how long that’s going to take.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
So it’s not God holding out on us.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Right, exactly.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
I heard someone teaching the other day and they said, “God answers prayers in three different ways, either yes, no, or wait.” And I’ve got to thinking about that-

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Where is that in the word?

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
I don’t find it. It’s convenient doctrine, but I-

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Sounds good.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
It’s convenient because what happens is we believe God. When you understand that the promises of God are yes and amen. When you understand that every promise is for you today. When you understand that grace, Jesus Christ has already paid for it, he’s already get… he’s done everything for you to receive your healing, to receive your prosperity, to receive your peace. When you understand that, it sometimes makes it harder because now it’s why aren’t we seeing it manifest? In the out days, I used to believe God’s in control. God controls everything. And if I’m not seeing my healing or if I’m not seeing a break through my life, it must just be God holding out on me. God knows best. He’s just holding it from me. And I used to think that God’s got a carrot on a stick and he’s just-

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
He’s teasing you with something.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
He’s type of teasing us, yeah. That is not the truth. Every promise of God is yes and amen for you.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Amen.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
And one of the easiest ways we can see this is in the life of Jesus. If we look in the life of Jesus. I heard someone put it this way, it’s a little bit cheesy. My kids don’t like saying that, but I’m going to say it. If God was to take a selfie it would look like Jesus. There, I said it.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
That’s cheesy.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
That is cheesy.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
But Jesus said to Philip, “If you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the father.” So Jesus Christ, when he walked on the earth, was the perfect representation of God in the flesh. And he’s the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
So when Jesus walked on the earth, he was God the father. I mean, we could see what God’s character was. We could see what God’s will was. And Jesus healed everyone. He never said, “No.” He never said, “wait.” He healed everyone-

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
He never said maybe.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Maybe.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Did your parent every say maybe to you?

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Oh, I used to hate that. Can we do this? Can we do that?

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Maybe.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Can we go and get ice cream? Maybe. We’ll see, we’ll see.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
We’ll see.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
And we’re guilty of you saying that now to our kids now-

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
We do, we’ve done the same things with our own children.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
I’ll tell you what it is, I don’t want to commit, because if I commit, then they’ll… They’ve got memories like elephants.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
They’ll never forget. Yeah, they just don’t forget.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
They will never forget, and it’ll be 11 o’clock at night just about to get to bed, “You promised me this today.” And I’m like, “Oh.”

Ashley:
Anyway, where was we? Yes, so God, God’s will is always yes and amen.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
So every promise, if it’s in the word of God, if it is a promise for you, then it’s for you. You can receive it and there’s no God waiting out, there’s no good saying no. There’s other factors why you might not see it manifest instantly and that’s what we’re going to look at. But it’s not God. God is constant. He is good, he’s a good father and he only has good things for you. Amen.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Amen. And sometimes I think we wonder if maybe the word of God… Even our faith gets shaken a little bit when we don’t see what we want to see happen when we want to see it.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
We can even be confused in our thinking to the point of, well, wondering even if the word of God is true. Does it really work? Does God really love me? Are the promises of God really for me? Can I really trust? Can I really do this faith thing? Right?

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Does this faith thing really work? These are all the questions that we’ve had ourselves, actually. That we’ve walked through over the years, and that we meet people that are dealing with every day. But they’re real questions because when we don’t see the promises of God manifest in our life, and if we don’t understand the process that we were about to go through, we’ll start coming from a place of faith and slipping into fear and frustration.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
And fear and frustration is not how we access the promises of God. We access the promises of God, that grace has already provided for us, through faith, right?

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
And faith is a certainty, it’s a sure hope. So where is faith in all of this? Let’s jump right into the scriptures here in the word. And this is in, we’re going to look at John 5. Do you have it there?

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
I do-

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
This is the-

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Modern English Version

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
In the Modern English. I like this version actually.

Speaker 2: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
John 5.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Modern English Version is what we are reading from today.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
So this is the story of the healing at the pool, the man in the pool.

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
At the Pool of Bethesda.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Bethesda, the Pool of Bethesda. I hope I’m saying that right. Bethesda?

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Just say it confidently.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
And this is this is John 5, get you Bibles, follow along with us. This is John 5. We are using the Modern English Version here, but often we use the New King James. But this is the Modern English Version of John 5 verse one. After this there was a feast of the Jews and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now in Jerusalem by the sheep gate, there is a pool, which in Hebrew is called Bessie-

Carlie: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Bethesda.

Ashley: Manifesting Miracles Part 1
Bethesda. I’m struggling with this today. Bethesda, Bethesda.

Carlie:
You’re going to get it, you’re going to get it by the end. Bethesda.

Ashley:
Having five porches, having five porches.

Ashley:
“In these lay a great crowd of invalids, blind, lame, paralyzed waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool, stirred up the water. After the stirring of the water, whoever stepped into the pool first was healed.” Well, “Of whatever disease he had.”

Ashley:
That’s quite the competition. It’s like as soon as that pool, the water’s moved, bam. People just run down there and get healed.

Carlie:
That’s right.

Ashley:
So if I was a kid there, I’d be ornery and just throw a rock in and tell people it’s an angel and watch them all run. No, I’m sorry.

Ashley:
Anyway. So a certain man was there. He had an illness for 38 years, 38 years-

Carlie:
That’s a long time.

Ashley:
It’s almost as old as me. 38 years of waiting sick. Some people you know… We’re not making light of this. People have been suffering, I know people watching this show now, thousands of people watching this. These people, you’ve been suffering for decades.

Carlie:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Ashley:
And we’ve got sympathy for you. We only suffered with our daughter for three years before we saw her healing. But that was three long years. If you’ve been suffering with something for decades, I’d say our hearts go out to you, but we want you to know it. With God, he wants you healed right away. It doesn’t matter that you’ve been waiting 30 years. Don’t worry about that. Think today’s your day.

Carlie:
Amen.

Ashley:
Think even if you’ve been waiting decades for your healing, today is different, today’s your day. Amen.

Ashley:
So he was waiting 38 years when Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been in that condition for a long time. So Jesus must be an operating in the spiritual gifts to know that he is, or maybe he talked to him. “Do you want to be healed?” This is interesting, right? This is verse six. He asked the man, “Do you want to be healed?”

Carlie:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Ashley:
Seems like a funny question to ask. Surely he wants to be healed.

Carlie:
So the man had been sick for 38 years. He’d been sitting by the pool for a long time. We don’t know exactly how long, but we know that he’d been sick for 38 years. That’s a long time to be sick. And when Jesus meets this man, this is the first question he says to him, “Do you want to be made well? Do you want to be made well? Do we want it to be healed?”

Carlie:
Well, I want to back up a little bit here into verse four, when it said he was talking to the masses, “After the stirring of the water, whoever stepped in first was healed of whatever disease he had.” Now there’s a translation that I use sometimes, it’s called the Wuest translation. And that same passage of scripture there is actually translated, “Whatever disease had gotten possession of him and was holding him down.”

Ashley:
Wow, that’s good.

Carlie:
And I just think that adds a little bit more insight to this man’s condition that he’d been dealing with for such a long time. If we’ve been sick for a long time, I’m talking about a chronic sickness, that sickness isn’t just in our physical bodies.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie:
It starts to take possession of us, it starts to take ownership of us.

Ashley:
You started to think sick, you start to see yourself sick. You start to, in your thoughts, you see yourself. I’ve heard people say that when they dream, in their dreams, they’re sick. They have that ailment, they have that disease in their dreams, that’s how they-

Carlie:
Yeah. And it’s the same principle that will work for not just sickness, but maybe poverty, right, or depression or whatever it is that you’ve been dealing with.

Ashley:
When you’ve been a certain way for so long and you’ve been experiencing something. So maybe it’s poverty, maybe it’s confusion, anxiety, worry, things like that. Then yeah, you can start to just see yourself like that all the time. And that can be the norm, the norm, the normal-

Carlie:
Yeah. We develop a way of thinking and it’s negative.

Ashley:
Yeah. The normal you is poor and frustrated and sick. And that’s not how it should be. And what happens is we see ourselves like that and it’s very hard to break out sometimes because that’s our own picture of ourselves.

Carlie:
Right.

Ashley:
And that’s important to break that cycle. And sometimes it’s generational. Sometimes people, they’ve been brought up in this.

Carlie:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Ashley:
They’ve been brought up in sickness, or they’ve been brought up in poverty and it’s like they don’t know any other way. This is just normal. This is how we live. We’ve always been poor.

Carlie:
Right.

Ashley:
And that’s how it is.

Carlie:
And we can see. This is the importance of the question and why Jesus asked him the question, “Do you want to be healed? Do you want to be free?” Because if we’ve found ourselves with this pattern of thinking for many years, it’s become ingrained in us. Sometimes I think we don’t even realize that we thinking the way we’re thinking.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie:
It’s so second nature to us. It’s second nature to us to just go to the doctors every time that we’re sick, or it’s second nature to us when we’re struggling with money to go put something on a credit card or go get a bank loan or go to the doctors or… None of these things are sin. It’s just a way of thinking, a way of responding to a situation, a crisis situation that we’ve learned.

Ashley:
It’s really the world’s way of dealing with it rather than the word’s way of dealing with it.

Carlie:
Right.

Ashley:
It’s really like the world’s way rather than the Kingdom way.

Carlie:
Right.

Ashley:
And this happens often and it takes time to renew your mind to the word of God, you know Romans 12, and actually get this out of you. But it’s interesting once you really renew your mind and make a purposeful effort not to live like that, then you’ll spot it a mile away. We had a couple of people staying with us one time I remember. And we were just driving up to the house and one of them started saying about how, “I can never get ahead. I’m always poor. I never get a good deal. I’m always, every time I have money, I always see, it always… something seems to go wrong and I never have money in the bank. I never have enough money.” And he was just speaking out all this stuff about money. And then right after that, the lady started speaking out about how, “Oh, I bet I’m going to get flu this year. I always get flu this time of year and I can’t, even if I get the flu shot, I always get flu and this time of year I always get sick.” And she just started speaking.

Ashley:
So there’s this guy speaking poverty and she’s speaking sick. And in the end I just said, “Oh, stop, right.”

Carlie:
Enough is enough.

Ashley:
I mean, I’m very aware, but they’re in my house so I can say it. So I said, “Oh, stop that.” I said, “You’re in my house at that moment, and in my house we don’t speak poverty and we don’t speak sickness.”

Carlie:
Right.

Ashley:
And I explained to them why. And I said, “We just don’t speak those things.” You can say what you see or you can say what you want to see, and there’s a big difference. If we just keep reporting what we see or what we feel then that’s the results we’re going to get. The word of God pushes us into faith and we actually start speaking the things that we want to see. We start speaking the things that God wants us to have. The promises of God rather than just what we see with our natural eyes.

Carlie:
Yeah, and this question that Jesus asked this man here by the pool, “Do you want to be healed?” Actually, a more accurate translation of that is, “Do you have a strong determination to be free?”

Ashley:
Oh.

Carlie:
“A Strong determination to be healed. A strong determination to be delivered.” What he was asking really was, “Are you ready for your life to change?”

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Carlie:
And we can see how the man’s mindset had to change by his response right here in this next verse. It says in verse seven, “The sick man answered him and he said, ‘Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred, but while I’m coming another steps down before me.'” And this is really common for people. If you’re struggling to see the word of God manifest in your life, sometimes it’s because we have just a negative way of thinking.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie:
We’ve developed some poor mindsets that aren’t word based or that we’re hopping back to previous experiences.

Ashley:
I’ve had this person pray for me. I’ve been to this conference. I’ve had this, I’ve believed this. I’ve had people say to me, and this is no disrespect, but I’m just going to tell it as it is. They’ve said, “I’ve tried that faith, it doesn’t work.” And I’ll say, “Where’s your list then? Where’s the list of things you’ve tried?” Well-

Carlie:
Some people have a list, I’ve met them.

Ashley:
They do have a list. Yeah, they do, but he’s just said, “I’ve got prayed for and nothing happened, and I read the scriptures and nothing happened.” And it’s like, “Well, what scripture, standard?” “Well, somewhere around.” And sometimes there can be excuses, and sometimes it’s to protect your own heart from getting hurt. Sometimes it’s to you just don’t want, maybe it’s that shame part? I don’t know, but often excuses, if you don’t see the promises of God, if you don’t see your healing or don’t see whatever promise you believing for.

Ashley:
You’ve got to be careful we don’t make excuses. I’ve been there, I’ve made excuses and it’s like this guy here is like, “Well no one can actually put me in the pool. And even if people do carry me down to the pool, someone else beats me to it.” And it’s so-

Carlie:
Yeah, it’s really a victim mindset.

Ashley:
It is, it’s like things aren’t lining up right. There’s other reasons outside of us why things aren’t working and we got to be careful not to… Now, I don’t want to get political or anything. But nowadays in society, unfortunately it’s like personal responsibility seems to be gone. It’s always someone else’s fault. Somebody else did this.

Carlie:
Right.

Ashley:
It’s my generation, it’s my work, it’s my boss, it’s my school, it’s whatever. It’s the side of the tracks I was born on. And it’s like you know what the good news is? Is with the word of God, it doesn’t matter about your past. It doesn’t matter about where you’re from. Praise God, every one of us has a bright future in the promise of God.

Carlie:
Amen.

Ashley:
So we don’t have to make excuses, we can praise God. If we’re up for it, all things are possible for those who believe.

Carlie:
Amen.

Ashley:
And so I want to tell you, you can break free and you can change your family tree. You can change your side of town. You can change your school. You can go for it, and you could be the one that breaks over the top. Praise God. But you’ve got to get rid of excuses. If you just have excuses and say, “Well, this is how my my family’s always lived, or this is how people from my area has always lived.”

Carlie:
Yeah, and that sense of being disadvantaged and somehow dispossessed, diseased, right?

Ashley:
Diseased, diseased.

Carlie:
Diseased, diseased. That, after a period of time, 38 years, had gotten into this man’s way of thinking. And he could’ve said to Jesus, “Well, you don’t understand, Jesus. I’ve been sick for 38 years. I’ve always been sick. My father was sick, my father before me was sick. My whole, my career now is actually, this is my life now. I sit by the pool and I watch. But you know what? I’m just waiting for one in a multitude chance of being healed.”

Ashley:
Yeah, lotto. Maybe I’ll be like winning the lottery one day.

Carlie:
It’s like winning the lottery. And healing and receiving from God and the promises God are not up to chance.

Ashley:
Right.

Carlie:
Right. Healing and receiving God’s promises are intentional, and Jesus was very intentional when he met this man. He wasn’t uncompassionate. In fact, he was very direct with the man. He says, “Do you want to be healed?” It’s almost could be a little bit rude?

Ashley:
Challenging, it’s challenging.

Carlie:
It was challenging. But what he needed to do, you see the man focus was on waiting for an angel to come down and stir the pool. He did not realize that he had met healing. That healing was standing in front of him in the person of Jesus.

Ashley:
Wow.

Carlie:
Because he was so… his mind was so consumed with how things had been. How things had been up until that point. How his life had been. You imagine somebody that’s been sick for a long time or in a position like this for a long time, they’re used to other people helping them, other people taking care of them. The man had faith, that wasn’t the issue, otherwise he wouldn’t have been sitting by the pool, right?

Ashley:
Right, yeah.

Carlie:
So it wasn’t a faith issue. It was a mindset issue. You see in order for the man to receive healing from Jesus, he was going to have to take his focus off the past.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie:
He was going to have to stop looking for an angel or somebody else to come help carrying him down and for the conditions to be just right.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie:
Man, that can give us such confidence because we know we have the King of Glory on the inside of us.

Ashley:
Amen.

Carlie:
We carry around on the inside of us Jesus, right. The the healer on the… the provider on the inside of us.

Ashley:
Amen.

Carlie:
247. This man, we have way more today than this man had sitting by the pool and he was meeting Jesus in the flesh. But Jesus was saying to him, “You need to look at me. Not around the round, but right here. Look right at me. Look right in my eyes. Do you have a determination? Do you really want your life to change? Because when you put your trust in me, when you give your heart to me, all of that, all of that old past is about to leave.”

Ashley:
It’s gone. It’s almost like he’s identity-

Carlie:
It’s gone.

Ashley:
His identity is gone.

Carlie:
Exactly.

Ashley:
And I remember praying for one man, he was blind. And in fact, he started to see light and dark for the first time. And he was receiving his healing, it was amazing.

Carlie:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Ashley:
And I remember his carer said to him, “How are you going to pay? How are you? You’re going to have to get a job?” She started saying things to him like, “You’re going to have to get a job. How are you going to live now? You’re going to lose the dog.” And all these things, terrible things. And he got to thinking about that. And it was like this is a little similar here.

Carlie:
Yeah, his life was about to change.

Ashley:
If you get healed, your life’s going to get… going to about to completely change. And he didn’t see his full manifestation of his healing, unfortunately. But I wonder if those things played on him? Like, “I’m going to lose my pet dog, and I’m not going to get this benefit money anymore.” And things like that.

Carlie:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Ashley:
And again, no condemnation. We need to think about this. When you are healed, especially if it’s something longterm like you’re talking about here, it’ll change everything. Your identity, if you’ve hidden behind that disease, if you’ve made that does it, “Well I can’t do this because this disease, I can’t work because this disease.” Or whatever and you’ve got special treatment.

Carlie:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Ashley:
Is that disease… Sometimes disease and ailments like this can make us feel special. I know you had this some with your epilepsy.

Carlie:
Yeah, for sure. Yeah, I dealt with epilepsy for a number of years. And I went to a Bible study one day and we were in an environment that really… they didn’t really understand about healing. Our church didn’t really understand about healing. They believed that God could if he was in a good mood.

Ashley:
It was up to God, where they believed that it was up to God if you healed or not.

Carlie:
It really was sovereignty of God, right. And so we didn’t really have an understanding of healing other than God could heal if he wanted to. That was our understanding. But one day I went to a Bible study and my friend was teaching and there was a time of meditation during that Bible study for us to just be quiet before the Lord and listen to him. That’s a thought, isn’t it?

Ashley:
Yeah.

Carlie:
In the middle of a crisis sometimes the thing that we want to do least it listen to the Lord, right. We’re too busy trying to fix it.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Carlie:
That’s me, anyway. But in that quiet time, I was just being quiet. Literally just being quiet. Clearing in my mind, thinking about Jesus, not really not saying anything. And it came to me in my spirit on the inside of me. You know when you hear God on the inside of you?

Ashley:
Right.

Carlie:
And God spoke to me and he said, “This epilepsy, you’ve never let me in on it.”

Ashley:
Wow.

Carlie:
And I know exactly what he meant. He says it’s just that I’d had epilepsy for years. I’d learned to manage it and just learned to live with it.

Ashley:
Right.

Carlie:
Learned to soldier, learned to… Our whole life had adapted around living with that condition. At the time we had three children and I couldn’t be left with the children by myself because I had so many seizures. I needed a babysitter just for me. I was taking a multitude of medications. My life was really controlled by in and out of hospital visits. Ashley never knew when he came home from work with I’d be conscious or not.

Carlie:
I mean, and to say all that now sounds, “Wow, that’s really traumatic. How did you live with that?” But when you’re in the middle of it, you just kind of suck it up and get on with it, don’t you?

Ashley:
Yeah.

Carlie:
You just learn to live with it. So when God spoke that to me it was like, “Hang on a second. You mean I can be free from this? This is a condition that the doctors had told me that you can never get over. You can never get past.” And here was God saying, “I’m setting before you life and death, choose life.” He showed me scriptures in Deuteronomy where that’s quoted and I just thought, “Wow, you mean to say I have a choice. I have some power. I have some say over over this. I don’t have to, even though I’ve had it for decades, I’ve had it for years. I don’t have to live with this forever. I don’t have to receive every doctors report this come my way?”

Ashley:
Right.

Carlie:
And it was so overwhelming for me. That was a complete mind shift change of thinking. And honestly, it was kind of I don’t know. If maybe I’m going crazy, maybe this isn’t God speaking to me. Maybe this is just too much cheese or something. I don’t know, right. So I didn’t say anything. This was way out of my comfort zone of thinking. So I went home and I’m like, “Lord, I need you to show me in the word. I need to understand what I just heard in my spirit.”

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie:
And for the next two weeks, he took me through the scriptures and he showed with that Jesus had a healing ministry. I mean, who knew, right?

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Carlie:
Jesus had a healing ministry. And he says, and he actually said to me at the beginning of that two weeks, “In two weeks time, you can be healed from this if you choose to be.” Which, I mean-

Ashley:
If you choose to be.

Carlie:
If you choose to be. And that was just so huge for me to think that I have a choice. I have a part to play in this.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Carlie:
We see just like this man here by the pool, he had a part to play in this. The Lord was saying, “If you want this, you need to respond to me.”

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Carlie:
This is available, but you need to respond to me. And in the waiting, we can quit responding.

Ashley:
Yeah. It’s interesting nearly all the times people were healed in the gospels there was some sort of action they had to take.

Carlie:
There was a response of faith.

Ashley:
There was a response of faith. It was, James puts it this way, “In our faith without works is dead, or faith without corresponding actions is dead.” And it’s not that the actions give you faith. It’s that if you truly believe, if you have faith and you truly believe you’re going to act on it.

Carlie:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Ashley:
You’re going to do something. And this is what Jesus was doing. He wasn’t asking the questions for himself. He was asking the question for the man, right, to challenge him. Are you serious about this? Because if you’re serious about this, you need to get… you need to make up your mind and actually go for it and be tenacious.

Carlie:
Yeah, and that’s, over that period of two weeks, that’s what I did. I got into the word and the Lord showed me. And you know what he did during that two weeks? He started to change my thinking.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative)

Carlie:
Because I didn’t realize this man, I’d been sick for a long time, I didn’t realize how infected my thinking had become.

Ashley:
You’re sick in the head.

Carlie:
I was sick the head, right.

Ashley:
You’re sick in the head, that’s what I think. So it took two weeks. It wasn’t that God was waiting-

Carlie:
Exactly, that’s important.

Ashley:
You could have been healed instantly, but really it was two weeks. It took two weeks for your heart or your mind to be renewed.

Carlie:
Yeah, for me-

Ashley:
For your mind to be renewed to receive it. And this is… Sometimes the promises of God, it takes us a period of time to renew our minds and to get our hearts in a place where we can receive. It’s all-

Carlie:
I must have had a lot of junk because it took me two-

Ashley:
That junk.

Carlie:
Two solid weeks, right.

Ashley:
It’s always God’s will, right, to give to us.

Carlie:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Ashley:
But we have to be able to receive it.

Carlie:
Amen. And so during those two weeks, he just, he told me how much he loved me, actually. He showed me that what his will was for my life. He showed me the dreams and the visions of the places he wanted to take me and the things that I wanted to… that he wanted to do with me. But in order to embrace those things, I had to be ready to give up epilepsy.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Carlie:
Now, I didn’t realize I’d been hiding behind it. I didn’t realize I’d used it as an excuse to hide behind for I feel a little bit tired today.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Carlie:
Because, you see, the longer you have something going on in the physical and the longer your thinking is wrapped up in this way that we we’re talking about. The longer you’re thinking is infected.

Ashley:
Right.

Carlie:
And the more of your identity as a child of God is kind of stolen from you, honestly.

Ashley:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Carlie:
And so during that period of two weeks, what he did was he restored my identity to me.

Ashley:
Right.

Carlie:
He showed me that I was special just because I was his kid, right?

Ashley:
Yeah.

Carlie:
I was a child of the most high God.

Ashley:
You didn’t need a disease to be special.

Carlie:
I didn’t.

Ashley:
You didn’t need something extra. You just use yourself as special-

Carlie:
And so in that time, I had become determined to receive healing.

Ashley:
Awesome.

Carlie:
And at the end of that two weeks, I was able to respond to Jesus and receive from him.

Ashley:
Completely healed.

Carlie:
Amen.

Ashley:
15 years ago, never had any seizures, no more medication.

Carlie:
That’s right.

Ashley:
No more epilepsy.

Carlie:
That’s right.

Ashley:
Completely healed, amen. And the same can happen to you. There’s nothing special about Carlie. You know what, you can receive your healing, God’s will for you is to be healed and whole every time. Praise God. So we are going to come back next time and talk some more about this man at the pool and see what happened to him and see how he received his healing. And that’s going to help you receive your healing. So-

Carlie:
Amen.

Ashley:
We’re going to come back and help. We want to pray for you before we leave you today.

Carlie:
Yeah, amen.

Ashley:
So finally, we’ve got to thank you for everyone watching today. I thank you. Your will is for them to be healed and whole, whatever their condition they have or however long they’ve long they’ve been suffering for, I think you Lord, your promises are yes and amen. You’ve already provided their healing. You’ve already provided their provision and that peace, and I thank you Lord that they’re receiving it now in Jesus name.

Carlie:
Amen.

Ashley:
Amen.

Carlie:
Amen. We agree.

Speaker 2:
Coming up next on the Abundant Life program,

Carlie:
This man gave his full focus to Jesus. His full attention was what on Jesus was saying to him. He had to tune out everything else, everyone else, all of his past experiences and look at Jesus. And in that moment, that focus was everything he needed to respond to what Jesus has told him to do it. You see, Jesus gave him a command, “Rise, take up your bed and walk. Be walking, start walking and continue walking.” In other words, Jesus didn’t ask him to do something he couldn’t do.

Ashley:
Wow, that’s good. So he told him to do something because he could do it. He doing it.

Carlie:
Right. Now in the natural, you might think, “Well the man couldn’t walk. He was asking him to do something he couldn’t do.” No, he was asking him to start walking, be walking and continue walking. You see in every word from God is every bit of power that we need in order to receive it.
