God’s Plan: Hear Him & Step In

God’s plan  for your life is good and tailor-made just for you by your Creator! He has only good things in store, but in order to walk into it you must be able to hear His voice.

God’s Plan Is Good!

God has absolutely amazing plans in store for you—better than anything you could ever imagine for yourself. He has specific things that He desires you to accomplish, and He has purposefully designed you to do them! Read what God told Jeremiah when He informed him of his calling. He said, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5).

God knew you before He even formed you in your mother’s womb! That doesn’t just mean He decided what color of hair you would have. No, He knew you intimately and designed you for a specific purpose. He sanctified you and called you for a unique mission here on Earth.

It turns out that Jeremiah was very effective as a prophet to the nations! He accepted and stepped into his calling and authored the longest prophetic book in the Bible! When you live out the perfect plan that God has for you, the results will far exceed any of your expectations.

However, in order to walk into God’s plans for you, you must be able to hear His voice. The good news is that Jesus tells us in John 10:27 that if we are born again, if we are His sheep, then we have already been given the ability to hear His voice and follow Him.

Keys in John 10:27

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
— John 10:27

John 10:27 contains three key points that we need to grasp. First, Jesus said that His sheep do hear His voice. So, walk through each day knowing that you do hear His guidance clearly.

Second, consider the last part of the verse that declares that His sheep will follow Him. You can have confidence—if not in yourself, then in the grace of God at work in you—that you will follow every instruction that He gives you, even when challenging. In fact, if the instructions from the Lord seem overwhelming and impossible in the natural, then that’s even better. God will get all the glory as you accomplish them!

Another prophet of the Lord wrote a similar promise. Isaiah wrote, “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:21).

Fear Not

Yet, when we talk about the plans of God for our lives, some people get a little scare. They might be afraid that God will ask them to do something that they don’t want to do. For example, “What if God calls me to be a missionary to Africa? I hate heat!” Or, “What if God tells me he wants me to work full-time with small children? I don’t like kids!”

Sometimes people are afraid that they can’t hear His voice, or that if they do, they will reject His direction for their lives.

This leads us to the third part of John 10:27, the phrase sandwiched in the middle of the verse. Jesus said, “and I know them.” Why did Jesus think it was important to say that He knows us? Wouldn’t it make more sense for Him to say, “My sheep hear my voice, and they know Me, and they follow Me?” Isn’t it more important that we know Him in order to hear Him clearly and follow His instructions?

On the contrary, it’s much more important for us to understand that He knows us

God’s Plan Is Made For You

Do you realize that God knows you better than you know yourself? He created you! Your Heavenly Father knows what climates you enjoy and which people you can encourage the most. God gave you the gifts, talents, and interests that you have, and He knows what brings you the most joy and excitement. He knows your sweet spot because He created it and made you to live in it!

So, don’t be afraid of what the Lord may direct you to do as you hear His voice more and more clearly. Launch into each day with excitement and expectation about the tailor-made adventure God has in store for you! Meditate on John 10:27 and realize that you do hear His voice clearly and you will follow Him. Have confidence in this truth: He knows you so well that His plans will bring you joy!
