Live the Legendary Life

A legend is a story about an extremely famous or even notorious person, usually passed down for generations. Sometimes it doesn’t even take more than one generation for an individual to become a “living legend,” especially when they’ve done something remarkable. Many times individuals with this “legendary” status stir up feelings of respect, admiration, and even awe. As believers, we are all destined to live our lives in a way that inspires those feelings of respect, admiration, and awe in the world around us. God has created us to live the legendary life.

Our lives should make people think, How is that even possible?

Live the Legendary Life

Jesus said:

“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:17-18).

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it” (John 14:12-13, emphasis added).

Everything that Jesus listed there should result in some pretty legendary living! The only qualification is to believe. Every single believer is qualified by Jesus to live legendary, and that includes you!

Many of us have not considered the truth that this kind of legendary living is possible. Or if we have, somehow it must only be for the spiritual super-dupers or those who hold a five-fold ministry office. It is time for the Body of Christ to realize that we all have been given a mandate from Heaven to share the good news of Jesus with the world, and that includes even greater works than Jesus did!

Everyday Faith is Legendary

However, this doesn’t mean you have to become famous, do physically amazing feats, or perform the most miraculous of miracles to live the legendary life. Let’s examine a few examples of biblical figures whose everyday faith made them legendary.

Consider Ruth, a young widow from Moab, with literally nothing to her name. By faith, she accompanied her mother-in-law Naomi back to Naomi’s hometown of Bethlehem. Through a series of divine appointments, Ruth married Boaz, a wealthy young bachelor. Although she would be considered a nobody by most people, Ruth’s faith in God and her faithfulness to her mother-in-law resulted in great blessing. In fact, Ruth is listed in the lineage of Jesus! Yet, the only thing that qualified Ruth to live the legendary life was her faith.

The woman with the alabaster jar of oil is someone we still speak of today. In fact, Jesus spoke of her, “Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her” (Matthew 26:13). What did this woman do that was so amazing to warrant a reward such as this? She simply came to Jesus and worshipped Him with everything she had.

You know, in the beginning, Peter wasn’t all that impressive of a human being. He was certainly a hard-working fisherman, but he had a terrible case of foot-in-mouth disease! Yet, with the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, Peter went on to become one of the most eloquent ministers of the Gospel! If Peter can live the legendary life, so can you!

Legendary Begins in the Heart

Living the legendary life doesn’t start with a training montage like you’d see in an action movie. The hero or heroine runs and sweats until their muscles bulge. No, like our examples from Scripture, living legendary begins with seeing God for who He is.

Ruth had faith in a God who would provide and protect. The woman with the alabaster jar knew Jesus was worthy of her worship. Peter was pretty gruff with the Lord at first, but he ultimately obeyed His word in faith (Luke 5:5). All of these now legendary people acknowledged God. They heard His voice and responded in faith. That’s the first step to living the legendary life.

Look into the face of your good Father. See the worthiness and perfect work of Jesus. And know in your deepest parts that the Creator of the universe wants you live a passionate, adventurous, delightful, legendary life!
